Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

happy_julie1And there is Julie about to meet her groom for the first time this past Saturday at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn, New York. I always feel and ( I know I’m lucky) when I can document the very first look a Jewish bride and groom take when they see each other. Something magical happens. Fantastic dress, Julie! Congratulations Julie and Jasper!!

Rao's Restaurant…..

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

is my kinda place. The only restaurant I’ve ever been to that tells you what you’re gonna eat, and you’re thrilled with what is served! The service is the best! The food is outstanding and the “host with the most”–the one-and-only Frank Pellegrino (owner)–is the best on the planet. Singing with Frank always tops off a great night at Rao’s.  I don’t think there could be an off night…at least, I have yet to see it.

While out and about yesterday, I dropped in on Michelle at Ink (fine stationary…oh Michelle, where is your site??).  I wanted to check out her shop interior and wall space, because I”m  thinking of hanging a HUGE colorful photograph on her back wall. The first thing she said was “Hey, you’re in Rao’s cookbook!”. I was floored, because this is the first time anyone has ever mentioned seeing my name in the book. Well, you can imagine the curiosity about Rao’s ….and then she said that “Larry” was mentioned, too. Of course, I go to Rao’s with Larry, it’s his second home. I’m thrilled when he invites me and friends to dinner…it’s always memorable. Only one glitch…expect to wait about a year on the wait list to get a table!

Andy Warhol…..

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

was with us at lunch yesterday.  Well, it felt like he was, at least in spirit. The weather has been so AMAZING that I had to wear white jeans and a little lavender top to lunch yesterday. I met with the always fun and elegant Susan Dumont’ Bengston. We were reminiscing about the different careers we’ve had, and how much that life experience means to us, our families, and our clients. After sharing memories about our world travels, I felt inspired to tell her a fun story that happened on my first visit to Paris. I had just turned 18, and was fresh off the farm. Well, to put it more precisely, it  was my first time on a date with a Swedish Superstar Tennis Player and my first time in a LIMO!!! Wow…I was impressed until the driver stopped at a building to pick up a man, who  got in the car and sat next to me. He was very quiet and had this sort of “white cropped hair” thing going on. I was thinking “Who the heck is this?,” when my date leaned over and whispered that  Andy Warhol was joining us for dinner, too. That was a night to remember. I haven’t thought about that evening in many moons, but for some reason, lunch with Susan brought it all back. And just as I was saying, “Andy Warhol,” Susan said “Look at my new watch!”  I love that Warhol watch and want one, too, as a memento of a magical evening spent spellbound under the Parisian stars.

Here a few nuggets from Andy:

“Isn’t life a series of images that change as they repeat themselves?” — Andy Warhol

“Art is what you can get away with.” — Andy Warhol

“They say that time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.” — Andy Warhol
