Portrait Of A Breast Cancer Survivor

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

bernadette_blog_webI had the privledge to photograph Bernadette last Friday afternoon. Her sister in-law contacted me via the web. The two women drove all the way from outside Philadelphia (4 hour drive)

to have me capture Bernadette and to share her journey. I was moved to tears after they left my studio and was not able to work for the rest of day. The shoot was intense. Bernadette is so incredibly brave. These are her words:

“Most people think of cancer only on the inside. I see cancer on the outside everyday. Even though I smile, I see and feel pain constantly. Whether inside or outside this is what cancer looks like”

I plan on having another black and white portrait  show late this fall on Breast Cancer Awareness and I will hang her images proudly.

Kristen Posing for Painter Alain Picard

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

selah30x40_2-12“I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.”
-Vincent van Gogh

Alain Picard and I agree with Van Gogh. It’s the human spirit that makes me tick and keeps me curious and snapping. Alain (aka) AJ  is truly one of the best and most creative artists I have known. When he asked my permission to paint me…..well….I was so incredibly flattered and blown away, I could hardly wait. This painting is titled:” Selah”, she is  going for around 7k but…..I’m  hoping for a print, right… AJ?  and maybe someday I’ll be lucky enough to own her…my son would love it one day and heck, one can dream, right? Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

kristen-shootingMe (above) photographing Laura and Derek’s wedding  last weekend at Tappan Hill in Tarrytown, New York. Us….photographer industry insiders call this shot the “money” shot. It is a MUST….all this works really well when you have a great day, an awesome looking smiling/ happy couple…and a super fast Canon…that fires a zillion frames a second!..

Oh and being able to walk, talk, direct,  shoot and chew gum backwards…is a plus!

I Love Shooting Still Lifes…

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

kristen-webMe (above) Yes….I love shooting still life images at a wedding…..love shooting them…period. I guess…I have an eye for details and I find myself drawn to them, arranging them, making them happen just about everywhere.  I look at it as part of the wedding day story. I love objects and things…and go mad for beautiful flowers, shoes, jewelry, art, houses, fabrics, silver, china, glasses……etc…need I go on? I like it up close and personal! I love stuff!!

PHOTOGRAPHERS PHOTOS TO AID
BREAST CANCER CAUSE

April 21, 2009 (Hartford, CT) – A collection of photographs of breast cancer survivors has consigned to the St. Francis Comprehensive Breast Health Center by the photographer Kristen Jensen and will be installed as part of their permanent collection. To mark the celebration there will be a reception and viewing of the photos on April 23rd at 5:30PM at 95 Woodland Street in Hartford.

newstimes-cancereve2251d931(This photo above  is of my buddy Stephanie Pelletier and me with some images from the show. Stephanie who runs the The Ridgefield Community center..a total power house and the one woman who gave me the courage to make my first show last October a success. Thank you Stef!)

The photographs are the inspiration and work of Ms. Jensen, a Connecticut based photographer who has consigned this 25 piece collection of black and white images to the hospital. These beautiful works of art tell the story of each woman’s personal journey of faith and hope.

According to Ms. Jensen the idea for the photographs began as she became more aware of the ability of breast cancer to target women of all ages and nationalities. “One of my goals in doing the photographs was to show the courage of these women in facing this illness,” said Ms. Jensen. “But another purpose is to raise awareness of breast cancer because the more funding we attract for research the better our chances of a cure.”

Kristen Jensen is a lifestyle photographer who specializes in portraits of celebrities, artists, business professionals, children and families. Her company, Kristen Jensen Photography, also does photography for social events and her wedding photos have been featured in Modern Bride magazine. As a former international fashion model with Ford Models she has made a transition to the other side of the lens and brings a unique perspective to her work.

Ms. Jensen will be donating more of her time to photograph survivors of breast cancer through her work with the St. Francis Comprehensive Breast Health Center. Any woman that would like to participate in the on going Faces of Courage Image Making should contact Kristen at: kristen@kristenjensen.com or (203) 792-9977. The  photo shoots that include hair and makeup are donated by Ms. Jensen and her staff at her Fairfield Country Photo Studio to raise awareness and the face of courage for all woman faced with this cancer.
